Kamakhya Temple:
The Shrine of the Mother Goddess in
Assam

Situated atop
of 160 metre high sacred Nilachal hill, (Blue Mountain)
Overlooking the town of the great river Brahmaputra, this
ancient temple representative of the old architectural style
of Assam marks the legendry spot where the most procreative
aspects of the mother Goddess fell to earth. It is the ancient
Shakti Temple in India where the ancient tantricism is still
practised, originally constructed by divine artisan Viswakarma
a legendary age ago. The Present Kamakhya Tempe was said to be
rebuilt by King Narnaraya in 1565 A.D. but the precinct of
temple retains sculptures and carved Components, the earliest
of which may be placed in the 6th century A.D.
Kamakhya
preserves shrines of ten different aspects of the devi, such
as Kali, Tara, Suruchi, Bhubane-Swari, Bhairavi, Chinna Masta,
Dhumavati, Bagala, Matangi and Kamala. Out of ten, nine
shrines exist nearby Kamakhya temple panaromic view of
Guwahati and the Sunset across the river Brahamaputra and blue
hills spread far and wide can be enjoyed.

transport to reach there: City Bus, By Taxi available near
Kamakhya Bus Stop, Paltan Bazar, Panbazar, MLN Road area and
Maligaon Chariali.

Legend & History interweave in
most of these tales that speak of the origin of the Kamakhya
temple. In time Kamakhya Become the nerve centre of this
region. It is not only a temple whose importance is widespread
but is synonymous with the name of the Kingdom itself i.e,
Kamarupa Kamakhya, which is how people once identified the
eastern Kingdom of Kamarupa.
