NFR announces two new special trains from Silchar
SILCHAR, Jan 18: The Northern Frontier Railway will a two day special one way passenger train service from January 20 from Silchar to Guwahati. The trains will depart at 11 am in the morning and stop at eight stations including Badarpur, New Harangajao, New Haflong, Maibang, Lumding, Hojai, Chaparmukh and Jagi Road on the way to Guwahati. The train departing on Wednesday will have 6 sleepers, 4 chair cars and 8 general compartments while the second train will have 4 chair cars and 14 general compartments.
The ticket booking for the special services has been started from today. It was informed by B K Mishra, senior DCM, Lumding, to media-persons in a press-meet held in the premises of Silchar Railway Station today. Mishra informed that there are some spare bogies in the station which have to be shifted to Guwahati. The extra bogies will be shifted on January 20 and 21. For the convenience of the passengers this one way special service using the spare bogies is being provided.
On being asked about the status of the pending works of Silchar Railway Station, Mishra informed that the works for over all renovation of the station is going on and will be completed shortly. After completion of the works, the station will be graded as ‘A Class’ station. Speaking about the response of the pubic to the present lone passenger train service on this route, BK Mishra said the response has been very good, all the seats are fully booked on this route.
Railways is earning around Rs.2.5 lakh through ticket sales per journey in the newly inaugurated Silchar-Lumding-Guwahati BG route. On being asked about the present early morning schedule of the train departing from here, Mishra informed that presently Railway PIT Investigation is going on and the timings may change after its completion. The government will soon launch newer passenger train services from Silchar to other parts of the country.
