HAILAKANDI, Nov 4 – For the first time in the history of Assam, the district administration of Hailakandi distributed cheques worth about 9 crore rupees among last year_s flood victims from the DC’s office in an unprecedented peaceful way.
The patwaris were entrusted the responsibility to identify the beneficiaries in all the circles, namely Algapur, Hailakandi, Lala and Katlicherra circles and accordingly about 36,000 families were selected. Rupees 1500 and rupees 10,000 were given to the beneficiaries considering their quantity of damage due to the devastating flood.
It may be mentioned here that due to the devastating floods last year, a total of 602.05 sq km area were affected. 230 villages were totally submerged while 3,31,500 population was affected. About 35,351 hectares of crop areas were also damaged due to the floods.
The deputy commissioner of Hailakandi, Tapan Chandra Goswami said that the people of Hailakandi were largely affected due to the devastating floods and the process of rehabilitating them was indeed a tough job but the entire process has been managed very peacefully and also in a systematic way.
The additional deputy commissioner (revenue), BC Nath said that all the government officials and staff worked very hard to manage this big event and he thanked them for smoothly conducting the entire process.
Despite of this some of the flood affected people have alleged that the patwaris have taken money in few places for including the names of the beneficiaries in the list. Source: assam tribune |
