Voice of
India Debojit Saha speaks about the “rocking”
Durga Puja he had this year...
This Puja will always remain special for me. Never
before did I think that I could steal public
attention, even momentarily, from Ma Durga. But this
did happen at Noida this year, thanks to Zee TV.
The experience added an exciting dimension to the gala
time I was already having. The confused look on some
teenagers’ face, as they wondered whether I was really
Debojit or merely a close resemblance, still amuses
me.
I was in
Delhi to stage a series of shows during
Durga Puja. It was my first real stage
performance in the nation’s capital. Previously, I had
shared the stage with others before the
Delhi crowd as a contender for the Voice of
India title.
For the last few years, I have been performing outside
the country during the Pujas. Last year, I was in the
US. This time, however, I decided to spend the Pujas
in my country.
Now, I really thank myself for the decision, as
otherwise I would not have known how much the
Delhi’ites love me. What an experience it was!
I staged seven shows in four days and all of them were
hits. I dance a lot during my performances and this
instantly creates a vibe with the crowds. I was mobbed
after every show. It is always gratifying to know that
so many people love you. It serves as an elixir and
encourages me do to better.
Just before the Pujas, HMV released one of my albums,
Swapna Sajiye, a bouquet of eight modern
Bengali songs.
We also organised a
Durga Puja at my in-laws’ place in Silchar this
year. Though I could not be there, my wife, Vandana,
made all the arrangements. I really missed not being
home.
Given my tight schedule, it is unlikely that I will be
in Assam before
Diwali. I am already getting a lot of offers
from different places to perform during the festival.
If everything goes according to plan, I am on for a
Diwali dhamaka after a rocking
Durga Puja.
