magazine completes 40 years

HAILAKANDI, Dec 16 – On the occasion of the completion of
40 years of Sahitya, a quarterly Bengali small literary
magazine, a daylong programme “Sahitya Utsav – 2007” was
organised on December 2 at the auditorium of SS College in
Hailakandi.
The retired professor of Gauhati University, Dr Usha Ranjan
Bhattacharjee, inaugurated it.
The inaugural session of the Utsav was presided over by poet
Bimal Choudhury and was addressed by the Editor of Sahitya
Bijit Kumar Bhattacharjee, poet Rana Chattapadhyay, Dr
Udayan Ghosh, Dr Shyamadas Bhattacharjee, Nitish
Bhattacharjee, Joydeep Biswas, among others.
All of them highlighted the achievements of Sahitya for
continuously publishing from the last 40 years from a place
like Hailakandi.
They said that when the literary small magazines are dying
everywhere, the Sahitya has created history and set an
example for the young writers.
In the meet, the first Biplabi Manmohan Bhattacharjee
Memorial Award was given to Dr Udayan Ghosh of
Kolkata for his contribution towards Bengali
literature.
Amitabha Dev Choudhury conducted the first literary session.
Dr Udayan Ghosh, Chabi Gupta, Bimal Choudhury, Rana
Chattapadhyay, Bhavani Chakraborty, among others, read out
their self-composed literary pieces.
Another literary session was conducted by Subrata
Purkayastha and a large number of poets of the three
districts of Barak Valley also read out their self-composed
poems.
Later, a discussion on the completion of the 40 years of
Sahitya was conducted by Dr Usha Ranjan Bhattacharjee and
was addressed by Dr Rama Purkayastha and Tomojit Saha.
