SILCHAR, Nov 20 – Vice Chancellor of Assam University, Prof Tapoadhir Bhattacharjee recently visited universities of China. During his visit, he visited six universities - Communication University of China, Beijing, Tisnghua University, Shenyang University, North-Eastern Univeristy, Shenyang, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The specific objective of the visit was to initiate co-operation and collaboration with student and faculty exchanges, research projects, lectuers through video conferencing and Chinese and India Language learning.
As per information received, there are three types universities in China. These are Central University, Provincial University and City University. All these universities have distinctive qualities and are highly acceptable among the Chinese people.
During his visit, Prof Bhattacharjee emphasised on collaboration of media studies with Chinese Universities. Prof Bhattacharjee said in China there is a complete university which is only working on communication studies. Journalism is no more confined to print journalism. There are more aspects that have been added to thier course. There are internet journalism, business journalism, financial journalism etc. Assam University has signed ‘letter of intent’ with Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
At the initial stage, there will be faculty cum student exchange programme. Chinese people are interested in learning English, Bengali and Hindi. Students going to China can share the language, and Chinese people coming to Assam University will teach Chinese to students and faculties.
Regarding the course module of communication studies from Assam University the process has already been made. The course module and leaflet are under preparation. As soon as it is complete, it will be sent to Delhi for interpretation. The interpretator will translate the material into Chinese. After that it will go to China. The process is lengthy but if we are going to achieve something, sometimes you have to wait, as Prof Bhattacharjee added.
Prof Bhattacharjee said that in Assma University, it has been agreed to open up a Buddhists Study advance Center. There are other departments too that will be collaborating with Chinese universities. Everything is under process. As Chinese people are professional and they are of course aware of Assam University’s contribution to their university and then they will move accordingly That’s why Assam University is gettng prepared and will leave no stone untouched to achieve the objective.
Prof Bhattacharjee said China has become one of the super powers in the world. At present they are in competition with USA and Japan. But even after 60 years of independence, India is far behind China. He said the Chinese are energetic and fully dedicated. They not politically, but economically open. They appreciate work in academic alliance with a univeristy. This initiative of Assam University will definitely help the entire North Eastern region.
