BUFFALO Tremaine Edmunds Bills Jersey , N.Y. — Forgettable campaigns for both the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators are nearing an end. Before they conclude, the two teams will meet in Buffalo’s home finale on Wednesday night.

The Sabres (25-42-12) have lost eight of their last 11 games as they prepare to finish their first season under head coach Phil Housley. Buffalo is coming off a 5-2 loss to the rival Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and also had a 6-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings last Thursday.

The Sabres have had a few positive moments sprinkled in between their struggles, particularly in the second half of the season — which included a stunning surprise 7-4 win over the Nashville Predators on Saturday.

In that game, top playmaker Jack Eichel had a career-best five assists in the victory, tying a franchise record. Eichel became the fourth Buffalo player to record five assists in a single game.

The loss to the Maple Leafs, however, was a stark reminder of just how far the Sabres have to go in order to turn things around in the future.

“That’s a good team over there, they brought it,” goalie Chad Johnson said after the loss, according to the team’s website. “Their skilled players or their best players were their best players. At the end of the day you wish you could personally, as a team Billy Price Youth Jersey , beat all these top teams all the time and have great numbers, great statistics. It’s tough beating these guys when they’re at their best. There’s a reason why they have as many points as they do. We’re still finding that consistency in our game.”

Eichel leads the Sabres in scoring with 62 points (25 goals, 37 assists) in 64 games. Ryan O’Reilly is second on the team with 58 points (22 goals, 36 assists) in 58 games. Young forward Sam Reinhart has turned the corner in the second half of the season, posting 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists) in 79 games.

One highlight for Sabres fans will be a Dominik Hasek bobblehead giveaway as part of the team’s fan appreciation night. Every fan who attends the game will receive one bobblehead.

The Senators (27-41-11) are also limping to the finish line in what has been a remarkably frustrating and surprising season. Ottawa has lost eight of its last night games, with the lone win coming in overtime against the Florida Panthers last Thursday. Ottawa’s most recent defeat came in a 6-5 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Monday.

“We showed some character coming back,” Senators coach Guy Boucher said, according to the team’s website. “But we made too many mistakes defensively to allow us to win.”

With his future unclear, Senators captain Erik Karlsson did not make the trip with the team to Buffalo. It remains to be seen if Karlsson has played his last game for the Senators. Karlsson picked up the final puck in the loss to Winnipeg before leaving the ice.

Karlsson is under contract through one more season but has been surrounded by trade rumors all season long.

Enrique Hernandez has been around the Los Angeles Dodgers long enough to know that an extended hot streak, even from a utility player Mike McGlinchey 49ers Jersey , can lead to regular playing time.

Hernandez hit another homer, Kenta Maeda pitched seven strong innings and the Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 on Monday night.

Chicago lost its fifth straight, to tie a season high, after getting swept over four games at Cincinnati. The Cubs have scored a combined 13 runs over their past five games.

Hernandez has six home runs, nine RBIs and a .773 slugging percentage over his last 13 games. Hernandez also went deep twice Sunday. He has a career-high 13 home runs, surpassing his 12 from 2017.

A nagging hamstring injury to Chris Taylor – he came off the bench for a pinch-homer Monday – has given Hernandez more chances to deliver of late.

”I would say that getting a little more playing time over these last two, three weeks has definitely helped me to stay sharp,” said Hernandez, who hit three home runs against the Cubs in Game 5 of last year’s NL Championship Series-clinching victory.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gave extended runs to offensive performers like Taylor and Austin Barnes in the second half of last season. Max Muncy has earned at-bats this year with 15 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Hernandez is making a case for himself.

”(Hernandez), on this run for us, has been as valuable Aaron Rodgers Jersey , if not more valuable than anybody on our club,” Roberts said.

Maeda (5-4) struck out nine and allowed three singles over seven innings. The Dodgers returned to Los Angeles to open a 10-game homestand after sweeping the New York Mets over the weekend in a three-game series.

As a team, the Dodgers have hit 48 home runs and gone 16-5 in June.

Kenley Jansen gave up deep a sacrifice fly to Javier Baez in the ninth inning before closing out the Cubs for his 20th save.

”We just have to work better at-bats,” manager Joe Maddon said. ”We are chasing way too much. We have to force the pitcher into the strike zone. Once we do that we will be fine.”

Cubs starter Duane Underwood (0-1) made his major league debut, recovering from a 41-pitch first inning to give up just two hits and a run over four innings, with three walks and three strikeouts.

DREAM COME TRUE

Underwood didn’t sweat a 14-pitch duel with Matt Kemp in the first inning – he embraced it. Kemp walked to load the bases, but Underwood escaped the jam by retiring Yasmani Grandal on a fly ball to the warning track.

”That was beautiful,” Underwood said. ”For me it was poetry in motion. I loved it going back and forth with the guy. … That was great, especially idolizing the guy growing up. To go one-V-one with the guy was great. Bases loaded, I loved it.”

Dodgers: Taylor (sore left hamstring) was out of the starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game. … RHP Walker Buehler (right rib microfracture) will throw another bullpen this week that will increase the intensity from his 17-pitch bullpen Sunday, but his return remains undecided. … RHP Pedro Baez (right biceps tendonitis) and LHP Tony Cingrani (left shoulder strain) will throw bullpen sessions this week. … LHP Julio Urias (left shoulder surgery) will throw two bullpens this week, as his fastball is nearing 90 mph, but his return remains undecided.

UP NEXT

LHP Jon Lester (9-2, 2.10 ERA) will try to win his sixth consecutive start and faces the Dodgers for his second consecutive outing. RHP Ross Stripling (6-2, 1.99), who saw his six-start win streak come to an end last week at Chicago, will get another chance to beat the Cubs for the first time in his career.

CALGARY Joe Thomas Jersey Youth , Alberta — Although both the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have been eliminated from playoff contention, bragging rights will still be on the line when the two teams face off against each other on Saturday at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

After the Oilers (34-38-6) won the first three games of the season series this season, the Flames (35-33-10) skated to a 1-0 victory over their provincial rivals in Calgary on March 13.

“It’s always fun,” said Oilers goalie Cam Talbot in regards to the Battle of Alberta. “The rivalry brings a different element every time. You know it’s going to be an intense game out there and not a whole lot of space (as) you can see from the previous matchups this year.

“Neither one of us are where we want to be in the standings. It brings a different element and just that intense matchup every night.”

While the Oilers have lost three straight games, the Flames have dropped seven straight decisions since blanking their northern counterparts 17 days earlier.

“There’s pride on the line, and especially this next game against the Oilers,” Flames forward Curtis Lazar told the Calgary Herald. “You never want to lose to our provincial rivals, so that’s an easy game to get up for.

“I think if we can just get back to playing a simple, solid and effective 60 minutes Sean Lee Jersey Womens , that will do wonders for our hockey club. The bottom line is we’re banged up and the mood is not where it should be, and rightfully so just because we’re out of it, but you have to find a way to salvage something.”

After Edmonton dropped a 2-1 decision in Vancouver to the Canucks on Thursday, forward Leon Draisaitl told reporters that the Oilers have to “just focus on the next game and come out with the same intensity.”

Prior to their three-game skid that started last Sunday with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Anaheim Ducks at home, the Oilers had won three straight games and four of five.

“For the most chunk of our games lately have been really good,” Draisaitl said. “We had a few where we weren’t as sharp. Even (against the Canucks), I thought we could have won that game. We competed and battled really hard.”

Although his team has lost seven in a row, Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan didn’t think his team played that badly up until Thursday’s 5-1 setback to the Columbus Blue Jackets on home ice.

“There’s six of those games where I thought we worked our tails off,” Gulutzan said. “Our effort’s been there. (Thursday) was the first dip that I saw in our group as far as I didn’t think we were quite ready in the first 10 minutes to go. We got going after that Anthony Miller Jersey Youth , but too little, too late. We’re decimated (due to injuries to forwards Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk and defensemen TJ Brodie and Travis Hamonic) with some skill here and that’s hard on the guys.”

The Flames may get leading scorer Johnny Gaudreau back in the lineup against the Oilers

“We’re not expecting it, but there’s a chance,” said Gulutzan in regards to Gaudreau, who was heading back to Calgary on Friday from New Jersey where his father, Guy Gaudreau, is recovering after suffering a cardiac event last Sunday. “First things first with what’s going on there. Their family went through something real significant and it looks like they’re going to come out hopefully better on the other side. We just wanted to make sure he’s good there first.”

The Buffalo Bills have agreed to re-sign linebacker Ramon Humber to a one-year contract.

Humber returns for a third season in Buffalo after starting a career-high nine games last year. He has nine seasons of NFL experience and signed with Buffalo in 2016 to serve in mostly a special teams role.

Last year Dallas Goedert Jersey , the 30-year-old was credited with 83 tackles, including 12 in a season-opening win over the New York Jets. He also had one sack and forced a fumble while playing about 50 percent of the defensive snaps over 13 games.

Humber’s playing time decreased over the season with 2017 fifth-round draft pick, Matt Milano, taking over the starting job.

Buffalo still has an opening at starting middle linebacker after Preston Brown signed with Cincinnati last weekend.

It was ”Turn Ahead the Clock” night at Safeco Field, including back-to-the future sleeveless uniforms with shirt tails out and some shiny silver shoes and helmets.

The Seattle Mariners feel like their future is now, earning a season-best sixth consecutive victory by beating the Kansas City Royals 6-4 on Saturday night.

Ryon Healy had four hits, including a home run and three RBIs. Felix Hernandez (8-6) earned the win despite back stiffness so severe that it was difficult for him to bend over.

”It was real bad Authentic A.J. Green Jersey ,” Hernandez said. ”I put a heat pad on it between innings and I couldn’t sit (in the dugout). I was standing up the whole game.”

The stiffness showed in the first inning when Hernandez gave up four consecutive hits, including a three-run homer to Mike Moustakas. But Hernandez managed to pitch four scoreless innings afterward.

Did he consider skipping his start?

”Come on, man,” he said. ”I had to go out there. But the ump wouldn’t let me wear my hat backwards (on the uniform night). ”He said it was too much of a distraction with my jersey out and the earrings. I said. `Look, this is the future.’ `’

Edwin Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 31st save of the season.

Jason Hammels (2-10) lost his fifth straight, allowing all six runs on 13 hits in six innings.

”Mechanically, the first few innings I was a mess Marcus Davenport Saints Jersey ,” Hammels said. ”That’s a tough lineup. I felt like I was throwing batting practice today.”

So did Hernandez in the first inning, but Seattle manager Scott Servais said they were just hoping to get five innings out of him.

”The ball was up in the first because he wasn’t extending due to the tightness in his back,” Servais said. ”He wasn’t finishing his pitches, but he got through it. The key was keeping us in the game, which he did, and we took advantage of it.”

The Mariners (53-31) are 22 games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2003 season. They have gone 16 consecutive seasons without a playoff appearance, the longest dry spell in professional sports.

”We’re just living the dream now Cheap Kerryon Johnson Jersey ,” Hernandez said. ”I love these guys. It’s the best team we’ve had in my 14 years. It’s fun.”

Kansas City manager Ned Yost said he knew Hernandez would get better as the game progressed.

”Good pitchers, if you’re going to get them, you better get them early because they’re going to settle in,” Yost said. ”Hernandez settled in in the second.”

The Mariners quickly got back in it. Mitch Haniger made it 3-1 in the bottom of the first when he doubled to the gap in left-center to score Jean Segura, who singled.

The Mariners took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Healy homered to left-center to tie it at 3 and Mike Zunino hit a sacrifice fly.

The Mariners added two more runs on five hits in the third inning to take a 6-3 lead.

It was another impressive win for the Mariners on a night of uniforms that were supposed to represent the year 2027. Dee Gordon wore his hat backward and Nelson Cruz showed off his giant biceps in the sleeveless attire.

”Dee put so much effort into it, so it was his night,”’ Healy said. ”But Nelson and those arms. My goodness. That’s shear intimidation when he doesn’t wear sleeves.”

TRAINER’S ROOM

Royals: Yost said RHP Ian Kennedy was feeling better Saturday after experiencing tightness on his left side when he left the game Friday after five innings. Yost didn’t day whether Kennedy would make his next scheduled start . INF Chester Cuthbert (lower back strain) went 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored in his first rehab assignment game at Triple-A Omaha on Friday night. Cuthbert appeared in 30 games and was hitting .194 before the injury on May 16.

UP NEXT

Royals: RHP Brad Keller (2-2 Mike McGlinchey 49ers Jersey , 2.25) will make his sixth start of the year Sunday. Keller is coming off the best start of his rookie season when he pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed only two hits in a 2-0 victory over the Angels Monday.

Mariners: LHP James Paxton (7-2, 3.65) will make his 18th start of the season Sunday. Paxton leads the team in strikeouts this season with 134 in 103 2/3 innings. He has six double-digit strikeout games in 2018 and his 11.6 strikeouts per nine innings are fourth-best in the AL.

The Chiefs have released one of their career sack leaders Dan Bailey Cowboys Jersey , Tamba Hali, and veteran stalwart of their secondary, Ron Parker, moves designed to help Kansas City get younger on defense and have some financial freedom for the start of free agency.

The Chiefs parted ways with longtime linebacker Hali on Monday. The move was hardly a surprise given his decreased production.

Safety Parker, who had missed just one game over the past four seasons and provided some stability when Eric Berry was injured last season, also was waived.

Hali was due a base salary of $5,750,000 this season with a salary cap hit of more than $9 million, and his release will only cost them about $1.7 million in dead money. Parker’s release saves about $5.3 million against the salary cap.

”I thank the greatest fans in the world (hash)ChiefsKingdom for 12 incredible years,” Hali posted on Twitter. ”I also want to thank the (at)Chiefs organization for believing in me from the beginning. All the support during my career in Kansas City has been overwhelming and KC will always be special to me.”

The Chiefs were strapped for cash heading into the offseason, necessitating moves on several fronts. They’ve already voided the contract of linebacker Derrick Johnson Josh Allen Jersey Youth , their career tackles leader, to save about $8 million, and released cornerback Darrelle Revis to save $4.5 million.

They’ll save some more when the new league year begins Wednesday. That’s when the trade of Alex Smith, which his salary cap number of $17 million, to the Redskins for cornerback Kendall Fuller and a draft pick, becomes official. The Chiefs will also save a bit of money when their trade of cornerback Marcus Peters to the Rams for two more draft picks becomes official.

The Chiefs only rolled over about $2.6 million in salary cap space from last season, so freeing up space to address their leaky defense – and perhaps help new quarterback Patrick Mahomes II with some offensive weapons – was of paramount importance for new general manager Brett Veach.

”You look at every situation and every position group and if it makes sense from a structural standpoint, a schematic standpoint and also a cap standpoint,” Veach said during last week’s scouting combine in Indianapolis. ”And it really is just the schematic standpoint and the cap standpoint along with the age, and if you get all those things pointing in the right direction, you go that route.”

Make no mistake: The Chiefs had aged considerably on defense the past couple of years Lawrence Taylor Jersey , especially in the linebacker corps, where Johnson and Hali had been the foundation for years.

Hali was the 20th overall pick in the 2006 draft out of Penn State, started every game as a rookie and never really looked back. He became a fan-favorite and went to five consecutive Pro Bowls beginning with the 2011 season, when he had 12 sacks and forced four fumbles.

He combined to add 20 more sacks over the next couple seasons, but the decline soon began for the 34-year-old pass rusher. He started just two of 16 games during the 2016 season, when knee pain caught up to him, and only appeared in five games last season after beginning the year on the PUP list.

When asked in January what his plans were for the future, Hali acknowledged he was ”leaning more toward” retirement but wanted to leave the door open to returning for another season.

He has plenty of interests away from football, including a hip-hop recording company.

”Tamba has been a tremendous ambassador for our organization, both on and off the playing field,” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said. ”His incredible work ethic and passion for the game helped make him one of the most successful pass rushers in franchise history. Tamba will always be a part of the Chiefs family Lamar Jackson Ravens Jersey , and we sincerely appreciate his contributions to the Chiefs and the Kansas City community over the last 12 seasons.”

The 30-year-old Parker should have plenty of suitors in free agency. He made 279 tackles, seven sacks and picked off nine passes after finally getting his break with Kansas City.

”It was great playing in front of the fans in Arrowhead and with some of the best teammates,” he said on Twitter. ”Now it’s time for me to move on. I look forward to this new journey and chapter.”

Parker’s age combined with his cost for next season ultimately forced his release.

”It’s kind of today’s world in the NFL,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said during the combine, when asked about their desire to get younger. ”Guys change teams and move. We think we have some good young players and feel comfortable with them.”

After splitting a four-game weekend set in Seattle, the Boston Red Sox return to work Tuesday night when they open a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.

The Red Sox went into their off day on Monday just a half-game behind the New York Yankees, but they have won six of their last nine games thanks to a starting rotation that has been among the best in baseball during the last two weeks.

Chris Sale will look to keep that going Tuesday when he takes the mound for his 16th start of the season. The left-hander snapped a three-start losing streak his last time out, allowing just a run in six innings of a 5-1 victory over Baltimore.

Sale had allowed 10 runs in 10 1/3 innings against the Atlanta Braves and the Houston Astros on May 27 and June 1, respectively. He rebounded by holding the Chicago White Sox to a run in eight innings while striking out two on June 8 in a 1-0 Red Sox loss before getting back in the win column against the Orioles.

“I have a good rhythm and tempo going for me right now,” said Sale, who has held opponents to no more than a run in nine starts this season. “I’m feeling good. That’s the way I like it.”

He’s 10-6 with a 4.21 ERA in 26 career appearances (18 starts) against the Twins LeSean McCoy Jersey Youth , who also had Monday off after a 3-3 road trip that saw them drop two of three to the Detroit Tigers and take two of three from the AL Central-leading Cleveland Indians.

They’ll begin the day third in the division, five games behind Cleveland and 2 1/2 behind Detroit.

“It was a good series win (in Cleveland),” third baseman Eduardo Escobar said. “We’ll be ready Tuesday for another series at home. This team will be OK. We go out there and play hard every day, but sometimes you have to give credit to the other pitchers.”

The Twins will turn to their own budding ace for the series opener.

Right-hander Jose Berrios is 4-1 with a 2.47 ERA in his last six starts. He has allowed more than two runs just once during that stretch and has struck out 51 while walking only 12 in 43 2/3 innings, including 24 strikeouts with two walks in his last three outings.

Berrios took no-decision his last time out. He held the Tigers to a run, seven hits and a walk while striking out seven in six innings, but the Twins’ offense and bullpen couldn’t get the job done in a 5-2 loss.

“He threw a hell of a game,” reliever Addison Reed said afterward. “That was fun to watch. He works his tail off, and it shows when he’s out there. The thing that I’m most (upset) about tonight is not getting him the ‘W.'”

Berrios has one previous career start against the Red Sox. He allowed four runs and struck out seven in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-1 loss at Fenway Park last season.

Melky Cabrera has re-signed with the Cleveland Indians Mike McGlinchey 49ers Jersey , who need outfield depth and protection while Lonnie Chisenhall and Bradley Zimmer are injured.

Cabrera signed a minor league deal Thursday and was assigned to Triple-A Columbus. He was with the club earlier this season before being designated for assignment last month.

Chisenhall was placed on the disabled list this week with a nagging calf injury, and there’s no timetable for his return. Zimmer has been sidelined at Columbus with a shoulder injury.

The 33-year-old Cabrera signed a minor league contract with the Indians in April. He batted .207 with five doubles and 11 RBIs in 17 games for Cleveland.

Cabrera has a .285 career batting average during 14 major league seasons.

The Indians, who lead the AL Central by 11 1/2 games over Detroit, open a 10-game homestand before the All-Star break on Friday against Oakland.

MILWAUKEE — As the playoffs approached, the Milwaukee Bucks thought they might catch a break by finishing seventh in the Eastern Conference, setting up a first-round series with the Boston Celtics, who’d go into the postseason without point guard Kyrie Irving.

Through the first two games of the best-of-seven series, which resumes Friday night at the Bradley Center, the Bucks have learned to be careful for what they wished for.

The Bucks returned home in a 2-0 deficit in large part because of the performance of Irving’s replacement Marcus Davenport Youth Jersey , Terry Rozier.

Rozier, a third-year point guard, has torched Milwaukee’s defense, scoring 23 points in each of the first two games, while averaging 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds.

He’s been a particular source of frustration for Bucks point guard Eric Bledsoe. Rozier is 7 for 17 when matched up against Bledsoe who, conversely, is 4 for 13 from the floor with Rozier as his primary defender.

When asked about Rozier after Boston’s 120-106 victory in Game 2, Bledsoe pretended to not know who the reporter was asking about, saying “who the (expletive) is that” and Thursday Ronald Jones II Buccaneers Jersey , as Milwaukee returned to its practice facility to prepare for Game 3, he maintained ignorance.

“Who?” Bledsoe said. “I’m focused on this series, man, between Milwaukee and Boston right now. I’m just trying to help the team win. That’s what point guards do.”

Rozier certainly is but Bledsoe has done anything but. He’s scored 21 total points on 9-for-25 shooting, including a 2-for-6 mark from beyond the arc.

He’s also committed six turnovers, something that’s been a significant issue so far from the Bucks, who’ve committed 35 in the series.

The Celtics have made them pay for those miscues — 20 percent of Boston’s scoring in the series has come off a Milwaukee turnover — and, while holding only a two-rebound advantage on the glass, have made the most of those opportunities Cheap Mike McGlinchey Jersey , too, racking up 20 offensive rebounds which they’ve converted for 42 points.

“Our transition defense has to be better — part of that comes from our turnovers — and our rebounding has to be better,” Bucks interim coach Joe Prunty said. “It’s not necessarily high-volume as much as it is, when they get them, they turn them into points.”

Prunty said he hadn’t addressed the Rozier issue with Bledsoe and also dismissed the notion that forward Jabari Parker was not on his “good side,” as Parker hinted earlier Thursday.

The forward, who didn’t appear in a game this season until Feb. 2 while rehabbing from a torn ACL, had finished the regular season strong, averaging 19.5 points in 31.8 minutes over the final six games. But he’s played only 25 minutes in the series Clay Matthews Jersey Youth , scoring two points on 1-of-7 shooting.

“He’s on my good side,” Prunty said. “We need him and everybody to be ready to go when they step on the floor and play well.”

Rozier downplayed the notion of bad blood or a personal rivalry with Bledsoe and said the Celtics won’t take anything for granted in Game 3, even with a somewhat comfortable advantage.

“We already know they’re going to come out aggressive,” Rozier said before Thursday’s practice. “They’re going to come out hard.

“We’re coming out with the mind-set that we can forget about the taking care of home court. We’re coming out and we’re still going to be aggressive, because we’re coming out to win. That’s our goal. We’ve got to pay attention to details.”

LeGarrette Blount had an 11-yard scoring run when things were decided in the first half, and the Eagles were headed to an NFL title game the Vikings (14-4) hoped to be in at their own stadium.“You know everyone was against us,” Foles said. “Coming out here and stick together and (we) come away with an amazing victory against a great team.”Blake Bortles and the stingy Jaguars (12-7) led New England 20-10 early in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t hold against the defending champions. The NFL’s second-ranked defense kept Brady and the Patriots at bay for most of the game, but lost linebacker Myles Jack and defensive tackle Marcell Dareus on consecutive plays on New England’s winning drive. It was New England’s 13th win in 14 games since their 2-2 start. Their only stumble since September was a 27-20 loss at the Dolphins on Dec. 11.Brady, wearing a black bandage on his right hand after needing stitches to close a cut that happened on a play during practice earlier in the week, showed no signs of being hampered. And, with the game 鈥?and the season 鈥?possibly on the line, the Patriots star came up big again.“I’ve had a lot worse Josh Jackson Jersey ,” Brady said. “I didn’t know that on Wednesday. It was a crazy injury. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday was a little scary. Then I started getting some confidence and today we did just enough to win.”Brady finished 26 of 38 for 290 yards and two touchdowns to Amendola. It’s the eighth Super Bowl appearance for Brady and coach Bill Belichick, who have won five times 鈥?including last year’s 34-28 overtime rally against the Falcons.“It’s pretty amazing,” Brady said. “Just to be on a team that wins these kinds of games, it’s just a great accomplishment.” Former NFL star Clinton Portis has reached an agreement to repay $190,000 he owes a New Jersey casino.

The former running back with the Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos was given $200,000 in credit in 2011 to gamble at the Borgata casino in Atlantic City. But he didn’t have sufficient funds to cover the debt, and six checks he signed to the casino bounced.

Portis retired in 2012 after rushing for just under 10,000 yards and scoring 75 touchdowns between 2002 and 2010.

Under a deal reached last week in Florida bankruptcy court, he will pay the Borgata 10 percent of any income he receives above $30 Billy Price Bengals Jersey ,000 through August 2021.

During court proceedings, lawyers for Portis said he thought he had more than enough to cover the debt. He anticipated $8 million from his NFL contract, but it ended when he was cut from the Redskins a month later.

”At that time, in January of 2011, my client was slated to make $8 million in the coming year,” Steven Silton, a lawyer for Portis, testified. ”He believed that his financial situation was very, very, very solid and that there was no question that he had more than enough financial capability.”

Portis had difficult contract negotiations that resulted in him being cut by the Redskins, Silton said.

”He had no reason to believe that as of that time that he wasn’t going to be playing for the Redskins LeSean McCoy Jersey Youth , or he wasn’t going to be making the money that he was contractually obligated to make,” Silton said.

Portis has repaid $30,000 of the $200,000 he was fronted by the casino. The remaining $170,000 balance has grown to $190,000 with interest and attorney fees.

He will have to show his tax returns to casino officials each year to verify his income.

Portis’ financial difficulties have been well-documented. In the court proceeding, his lawyer said an unnamed financial adviser ”absconded with upwards of $8 million dollars” worth of the player’s money.

Portis told Sports Illustrated last June that he contemplated killing one of his financial advisers but was talked out of it by a friend while parked outside his office with a gun.

Several of his advisers were barred from working in the financial services industry but were not convicted of a crime.

Silton did not return a message seeking comment Wednesday, and the Borgata declined to comment.

ARIZONA CARDINALS (8-8)

OPEN CAMP: July 27 Kolton Miller Youth Jersey , Glendale, Arizona

LAST YEAR: Cardinals dealt with myriad injuries but managed to pull out win in Seattle in finale to finish 8-8 in coach Bruce Arians’ final game. He announced retirement next day. Arians finished with franchise-record 50 wins, but his teams failed to make playoffs in last two years. QB Carson Palmer, after another season shortened by injury, also announced retirement. 8-8 record came despite loss of standout running back David Johnson when he dislocated wrist in opener. It was another standout year for Larry Fitzgerald: In 14th NFL season, he finished second in league in receptions with 102. Outside linebacker Chandler Jones led NFL with 16 sacks.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: Coach Steve Wilks, QB Sam Bradford, QB Josh Rosen, QB Mike Glennon, RT Andre Smith, RG Justin Pugh, WR Brice Butler, WR Christian Kirk, CB Jamar Taylor Leonard Williams Jets Jersey , RB Chase Edmonds.

IMPORTANT LOSSES: Arians, Palmer, S Tyrann Mathieu, WR John Brown, WR Jaron Brown, QB Drew Stanton, OT Jared Veldheer, CB Justin Bethel, OG Alex Boone, DT Frostee Rucker, ILB Karlos Dansby, DT Josh Mauro, TE Troy Niklas, OT Earl Watford.

CAMP NEEDS: With new coach and new systems on offense Taven Bryan Jaguars Jersey , defense and special teams, plenty for Cardinals to work on once they don pads. While most practices will be held in air conditioned comfort of University of Phoenix Stadium, Wilks says he wants some workouts outside in sweltering Arizona summer heat. There will be several important position battles, including for No. 2 receiver spot behind Fitzgerald. There’s also intrigue at quarterback, where Rosen has drawn praise as Cardinals bring along Bradford slowly after last year’s knee injury. Rosen will try to unseat Glennon as backup. Wilks and new offensive coordinator Mike McCoy want much of offense built around dynamic Johnson, who led NFL in yards from scrimmage two seasons ago. But Johnson skipped mandatory minicamp in contract dispute. Wilks also has cut camp shorter, ending it on Aug. 13 – just after second preseason game – and moving back to practice facilities.

EXPECTATIONS: Outside of Cardinals organization, expectations aren’t high. Many early forecasts have them finishing last in the NFC West. But Wilks has impressed players with his system and he says team has cornerstones of great players – Fitzgerald, Patrick Peterson, Johnson and maybe Bradford – to build winning team. Preseason games will be particularly interesting as Rosen is likely to get extensive playing time.

Montreal coach Claude Julien acknowledged the Canadiens can benefit by losing, increasing their chances in the NHL draft lottery.

Julien, though, insisted coaches and players are wired to win and refuse to compete with any other goal in mind.

Nicolas Deslauriers‘ second goal put Montreal ahead late in the second period and they held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Thursday night.

The Original Six teams are out of the playoff race, finishing up the season playing only for pride.

”Both teams want to win. It’s engrained in us Anthony Miller Bears Jersey ,” Julien said. ”I’ve been told – I can honestly tell you – to try to win every game we can.”

Antti Niemi had 23 saves for the Canadiens, started in place of struggling star Carey Price.

Detroit’s Jared Coreau stopped 24 shots, giving Jimmy Howard the night off.

Montreal took advantage of the Red Wings turning the puck over, including early in the third period when Artturi Lehkonen scored to create a two-goal cushion.

”We’re always trying to force turnovers and play a fastbreak game,” Lehkonen said. ”We got some opportunities and we did a good job finishing them.”

Darren Helm scored less than a minute later to pull Detroit within a goal, but it couldn’t’ score again to extend the game.

Montreal had won just two of its previous 10 games and will miss the playoffs for the second time in three years.

”I’m not used to losing. I don’t like to lose,” Julien said. ”But at the same time, I have to be objective and look at the situation and there were some challenges along the way that we didn’t expect, a number of injuries, and players having to move up in the lineup in areas they weren’t quite ready for.”

The Red Wings have lost two straight and 15 of their last 19 games. They will be relegated to watching the postseason for a second consecutive season after earning a spot in the playoffs 25 straight times.

”We’ve found ways to lose too many times this year,” Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson said. ”We lost a lot of one-goal games after leading games in the third. And, it’s just not acceptable that we didn’t close out more games.”

The storied franchises hope they’re fortunate enough to get the No. 1 pick overall to likely draft Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin.

Detroit wants to rebuild around Dylan Larkin, who split two Canadiens on a rush and beat Niemi with a backhander late in the first to make it 1-all after Deslauriers had his first goal early in the game.

”Dylan continues to build his game,” Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. ”That goal Anthony Miller Bears Jersey , I think, is a good sign for us.”

Tyler Bertuzzi put the Red Wings ahead early in the second, but they lost the lead as they have many times this season.

Brendan Gallagher pulled the Canadiens into a tie midway through the second period and Deslauriers’ 10th put them ahead with 5:21 left in the period.

”It’s been a tough year so this was a nice bonus at the end of the year,” Deslauriers said.

NOTES: Montreal D Jeff Petry was cheered on by at least one fan in the stands. His father, Dan Petry, an 18-game winner for the 1984 World Series champion Detroit Tigers, attended the game. … Coreau, who has spent much of the season in the AHL, is 0-5 with the Red Wings this season. … Gallagher has a team-high 31 goals, a double-digit lead over the rest of his teammates and seven more goals than he scored in any of his previous five seasons. … Larkin has a five-game points streak.

UP NEXT

Canadiens: Wrap up the season Saturday night at Toronto.

Red Wings: End the season at home against the New York Islanders on Saturday night.

So many times this season Carlton Davis Youth Jersey , New England’s defense made plays when it had to give Tom Brady and the Patriots offense a chance to win.

But with the man responsible for the biggest defensive plays in Patriots’ Super Bowl history watching from the bench, it couldn’t figure out the Philadelphia Eagles in a 41-33 loss Super Bowl loss on Sunday.

Malcolm Butler, whose interception in the end zone sealed New England’s Super win over Seattle in the 2015 Super Bowl, didn’t play a defensive snap on Sunday.

Bill Belichick said only that they ”put the best players in the game plan like we always do.” Defensive coordinator Matt Patricia said Butler was in parts of the game plan, but those parts weren’t used in the game.

Butler missed a day of practice last week with an illness. He warmed up and was in uniform, but watched the game’s biggest moments from the sideline. It was the first Patriots game in which Butler did not play a first quarter snap since their Super Bowl win over Seattle to cap the 2014 season. He started 17 of New England’s previous 18 games entering Sunday, including both playoff victories.

He seemed exasperated afterward, telling reporters: ”I ain’t got nothing to say.”

Without him, New England’s defense – and particular the secondary – had trouble keeping Foles and Philadelphia’s offense in check.

New England allowed 41 points, more than they have given up in any Super Bowl in the Belichick era. It also surrendered 538 total yards, including 373 through the air to MVP Nick Foles. LeGarrette Blount Sean Lee Jersey Elite , a former Patriots running back, rushed 14 times for 90 yards and touchdown.

Eric Rowe started in Butler’s place. He struggled early, giving up three catches for 66 yards, including Foles’ first touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery.

Butler’s teammates seemed confused by the change, which cornerback Stephon Gilmore said they didn’t find out until game time.

”Could he have helped us out? I don’t know. He wasn’t out there, so I don’t know,” Gilmore said. ”We just couldn’t never get off the field. I mean, we could never make a play to give the ball back out our offense.”

The Eagles punted only once in the game and converted on a pair of fourth downs.

The Patriots offense did its part. It didn’t punt and had no turnovers through three quarters. After playing from behind most of the night, Brady gave New England its first lead of the game, 33-32 on a 4-yard touchdown pass to Rob Gronkowski with 9:22 to play.

But when the Patriots needed a hero late, no one was able to make a big play.

And on the ensuing drive New England safety Devin McCourty couldn’t keep Zach Ertz from stretching the ball across the goal line for an 11-yard touchdown reception from Foles that wound up being the game winner .

The Patriots entered the game with 159-15 record Tarik Cohen Jersey , including a perfect 16-0 in the playoffs, when they had won the turnover battle.

They had the first one of the night, on an interception by safety Duron Harmon in the first half.

But it wasn’t enough.

Philadelphia used some trickery, facing fourth-and-goal on the 1 with less than a minute to play in the half.

After a timeout, the Eagles got the ball to Trey Burton on a reverse, who flipped a pass to a wide-open Foles for a touchdown.

New England pulled to within 22-19 after scoring on the opening drive of the second half.

The Patriots defense would break down again, though, this time letting Corey Clement get behind Marquis Flowers and McCourty for an over the shoulder 22-yard catch in the back of the end zone.

Safety Patrick Chung was shaken up on that play and missed a few series. He returned to action in the fourth quarter but had to leave again late in the game with a head injury.

”There was nothing we hadn’t seen. We just didn’t play good fundamentally,” Rowe said.

He said Butler was a presence on the sideline even though he didn’t play.

”After that first touchdown he just came up to me and was like `Keep playing. Keep your head up. It’s a long way. It’s a long game.’ So he wasn’t upset,” Rowe said. ”He was being a great teammate.”

Four-time Pro Bowl guard Josh Sitton followed this winter’s well-worn path from the Chicago Bears to the Miami Dolphins, and that’s not by accident.

After signing a two-year free agent contract with Miami that could be worth nearly $18 million including incentives Lawrence Taylor Jersey , Sitton said he was drawn to the Dolphins by the recent hirings of assistant coaches Dowell Loggains and Jeremiah Washburn.

Both were with the Bears last year. Loggains is Miami’s new offensive coordinator.

”We’ve had a pretty good little friendship over the past couple of years,” Sitton said Friday. ”I love his style of coaching. I love his offense. I love the system that they run. Coach Washburn as well – he’s one of my favorite coaches that I’ve had in my career. They definitely played a big part in it.”

Washburn is coach Adam Gase’s new offensive line coach, meaning he’ll oversee a makeover up front. On Wednesday, the Dolphins released three-time Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey and acquired center Daniel Kilgore in a trade with San Francisco.

Last month Kilgore signed an $11.78 million, three-year contract extension with the 49ers, but became expendable when they signed free agent center Weston Richburg this week.

”I don’t regret anything,” Kilgore said. ”A month ago when I signed the extension, I never dreamed about being in this position. I had the goal of starting and finishing my career there. But this is a new chapter for my family and me, and I think the change will be good.”

The Dolphins’ newest acquisitions also include free agent receivers Danny Amendola and Albert Wilson. They’ll combine to replace Jarvis Landry, who was traded to Cleveland.

They join a corps of wideouts that includes holdovers Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker.

”The way we’re going to put the stretch on some defenses is going to be crazy,” Wilson said. ”Danny is a straight-up dog. He’s very similar to me in the slot. He’s going to work and win. When you can count on a guy like that Jordan Howard Bears Jersey , man, it’s special.”

Sitton also is upbeat about his new teammates, including quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who missed last season because of a knee injury.

”With Tannehill coming back and being healthy, I think there are a lot of good parts to this team that are in place, and I think we can be really good,” Sitton said. ”I want to be somewhere I think we can win, and I think we can do that here.”

Business / Mike Gesicki Dolphins Jersey
« Last post by linchao on August 15, 2018, 03:32:41 AM »
BOSTON — The last time the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels met Mike Gesicki Dolphins Jersey , both teams were hot and the three-game series in Anaheim was to provide some sort of early excitement to the long and winding baseball season.

The Red Sox, who came in 13-2 against the 13-3 Angels, not only won all three games but did it by a combined count of 27-3.

“Give those guys credit. They had a great series,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said after the finale, and after the Red Sox beat up on Shohei Ohtani.

David Price, who won the opener of that series, faces the Angels and emergency starter John Lamb on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fenway Park.

With six starting pitchers on the disabled list, the Angels were able to get Ricky Skaggs back after the right-hander missed a game with a tight hamstring, but he had to pitch Monday’s makeup game at Kansas City. That left Lamb, a left-hander with a 2-12 lifetime record and 6.12 ERA, to make his second start in the opener of the series against Boston.

Missing Skaggs meant the Red Sox were able to avoid a pitcher who had won three straight starts with an 0.45 ERA (he lost 2-0 on Monday). Now, losers of 10 of its last 14, Boston gets Lamb, who allowed three runs in 3 1/3 innings replacing Skaggs last week.

The Red Sox are coming off a series win over the Seattle Mariners, finishing off a 4-3 two-weekend win over the AL West contenders. They rode a 13-strikeout effort from Chris Sale to a win in the rubber game Sunday.

“I’m glad that he’s on my team and I don’t have to face him,” Boston’s Mitch Moreland said of Sale (7-4). “He’s filthy and showed it again today.”

The matchup at Fenway renews the “best player in baseball” talk Cheap Isaiah Oliver Jersey , with Red Sox fans pushing Mookie Betts over Mike Trout.

While Betts spent time on the disabled list with an abdominal strain and missed a weekend game with illness, Trout has DHd the last six games because of a sprained right index finger.

“After a week, he was going to throw and evaluate it,” Scioscia said Monday. “We’re kind of there now. We’ll see. He’s not going to play center field (Tuesday). It’s how he progresses when he starts to throw.”

Amazingly, Trout is a .371 hitter in 16 lifetime games at Fenway, but he has never hit a home run in the old ballpark. He has driven in 11 runs and stolen six bases.

Price had a six-game (seven-start) winning streak snapped his last time out, at Minnesota, but allowed just three runs in six innings and could have won with some support.

Price is just 6-7 with a 3.45 ERA lifetime against the Angels.

The current LA roster doesn’t have much to brag about against the lefty. Albert Pujols is 10-for-31 (.323) with two homers and five RBIs, but Chris Young is 1-for-14 (.072), Luis Valbuena 1-for-8 (.125), Ian Kinsler 5-for-29 (.172) with a homer, and Trout 4-for-23 (.174) with 11 strikeouts.

Lamb, with the Cincinnati Reds the past two seasons, has never faced the Red Sox.

The Monday makeup allowed the Angels and Royals to celebrate the postponed April 15 Jackie Robinson Day, so all players on both teams wore No. 42 Monday.

“We’re all obviously very proud to do it,” Scioscia said before the game. “I think it’s cool. We missed it (on April 15) and the guys had been looking forward to it. They were like Donte Jackson Panthers Jersey , ‘Oh, man.’ It’s kind of nice because we’re the only two teams doing it today. We’re happy about that, for sure.”

>This is a fairy tale that takes place in the Midwest and on the West Coast. It centers on a team called the Chiefs, and how they were headed toward greatness, then fell down the rabbit hole. And a team called the Chargers, who climbed out of that hole. And the Raiders , who keep digging holes for themselves, yet have emerged. There’s also this rainbow, at the end of which is a silver trophy all three covet.Well, that’s really going beyond where this trio might be capable of traveling. The not-so-magical land they live in is called the AFC West. It was projected to be very Oz-like heading into the 2017 NFL season. Now, it looks more like a gravel-strewn back road than any yellow brick variety leading to a flashy palace.Mediocrity, or worse, will do that to you.Kansas City, Oakland and Los Angeles are tied at 6-6. There are enough head-to-head matchups over the next few weeks for them to settle the division crown by themselves.Or, a team such team as the Jets 鈥?who beat the Chiefs 38-31 Sunday and next play at Denver and have LA on Christmas Eve 鈥?could be a factor.Regardless, the ride could get even bumpier Reuben Foster 49ers Jersey , and it’s unlikely more than the division winner will make it to January.CHIEFSThe dynamic bunch that upended New England and Philadelphia 鈥?merely the top two teams in the NFL for much of the schedule 鈥?in September and began 5-0 has hit the skids. Kansas City rediscovered its big-play offense against the Jets, but the defense sprung all kinds of holes. It’s gotten so bad that Andy Reid’s team has fallen twice in the New Jersey Meadowlands in three weeks, and we’re not talking Joe Namath’s Jets or Lawrence Taylor’s Giants. And KC completely self-destructed with a series of penalties in the red zone late in Sunday’s loss.“We definitely can’t show frustration,” wide receiver Tyreek Hill said, “because if we do, it’ll definitely get the best of us.”Which it is. The once-stingy secondary has lost its edge, with even its surest cover guys and tacklers looking sloppy and making terrible decisions. A powerhouse running game has gone flat. Reid’s play-calling had stagnated and he gave up those duties against the Jets; at least that worked with Matt Nagy handling such duties.“You just continue to fight and try to win a game,” quarterback Alex Smith said. “We’ve been in some close ones a bunch here lately and have come out on the wrong side. Keep fighting and try to find a way. We know we have a couple of big division games coming up, so you have to assess this and get ready.”Immediately.RAIDERSIn a few years, they will live in Las Vegas. This year, the Raiders are rolling some sevens.A four-game slide in which the offense disappeared, particularly when quarterback Derek Carr was sidelined, didn’t ruin their chances. When the Chiefs came back to the pack, Carr got healthy and the schedule got a bit easier. In Sunday’s win over the Giants, Oakland caught a break because spiraling New York had benched its only proven QB, Eli Manning. So even without its top two receivers 鈥?Michael Crabtree was suspended LeSean McCoy Bills Jersey , Amari Cooper was hurt 鈥?Oakland had enough. The Raiders play at the Chiefs on Thursday night and finish at the Chargers.“You have to stay the course,” Carr said. “There’s a lot of adversity that happens every season. You wish you could just go out and win them all and do it in a good way. That just hasn’t been our road this year. It’s been a little bit more difficult, a lot of it because of ourselves. But we’re in a situation where all of our goals are right in front of us.”CHARGERSWhen they were 0-4, unable to fill a small soccer stadium they are calling home, the Chargers were a laughing stock. Look who is chuckling now.“No one ever flinched,” coach Anthony Lynn said. “At 0-4, we still had a lot of football left, and that’s how we’ve always looked at it. To be in this position doesn’t surprise me at all, because guys have worked hard and they’re committed to the process. They never stopped believing.”The Bolts haven’t beaten a team that has a winning record, but that won’t matter much if they keep storming through the weaker opponents. They don’t have anyone above .500 on their remaining schedule. There’s veteran leadership thanks to Philip Rivers and Antonio Gates. There’s a watch-out sacks duo of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. And there’s a growing confidence.“If you had told us when we started with an 0-4 record that we would be where we are now, people would say you’re crazy,” cornerback Casey Hayward said. “I think we are headed in the right direction. We can win this quarter of the season and be in the playoffs. We have a chance to make some noise.”.

Business / Joe Montana 49ers Jersey
« Last post by linchao on August 15, 2018, 03:14:07 AM »
ST. PETERSBURG Joe Montana 49ers Jersey , Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays continue to win games they perhaps shouldn’t, and they’ll have an opportunity for more of that Saturday against Houston’s Justin Verlander.

The Rays (40-41) hit the midway point of their 2018 season with a 3-2 win over Houston, giving them six wins in their last seven games. Their pitching has led the way — three times in the last four games, they have held their opponent to three hits or less, this after doing so only three times in the first 77 games of this season.

“If we are going to win a lot of game and we are going to string a bunch together, we have to have good pitching,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “The timely hitting is great, but we have to stay in the ballgame. For us to have allowed three runs in 18 innings against arguably the best team in baseball, we should find a way to win one.”

Houston will send Verlander, who has been dominant (9-3, 1.82 ERA) but has gotten surprisingly little run support from a potent Astros lineup.

Houston is just 11-7 in games he starts, and the Astros have scored a total of two runs in five of those losses.

So Saturday could look like Thursday’s 1-0 Astros win, or could look like Friday’s 3-2 loss, which saw two errors factor in Tampa Bay’s scoring.

Verlander faced the Rays just 11 days ago in Houston, again pitching well, allowing one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings, but ultimately taking a no-decision in a 2-1 loss. He has 136 strikeouts in 113 innings this season and a ridiculous 0.81 WHIP.

Against the Rays for his career Ezekiel Elliott Jersey Elite , Verlander is 8-3 with a 3.18 ERA, but since 2010, he’s just 4-3, despite a 1.72 ERA in his last five starts against the Rays. At Tropicana Field, he’s 5-2 all-time with a 2.53 ERA, including a 1.20 ERA in his last two outings.

The Rays counter with reliever-turned-starter Ryne Stanek, who has thrived in the “opener” role that Tampa Bay has essentially created in the past six weeks. He’s starting for the second time in three days against the Astros having thrown 1 2/3 innings of scoreless, hitless baseball Thursday night. For the month of June, he’s pitched in 11 games and 14 2/3 innings without allowing a run.

He’s held opponents to just four hits, lowering his season ERA to 1.85, just barely above Verlander’s.

The Astros know they have to be careful with the white ceiling of Tropicana Field — the Rays’ three-run fourth inning got a spark Friday when center fielder Jake Marisnick couldn’t hold onto a pop at the warning track, allowing a run to score.

“When you play here, you try to not take your eye off the ball,” Marisnick said. “With the ceiling, I kind of glanced quickly at the ball, then looked back up and lost track. I wasn’t able to come up with it. That’s a play I need to make 10 out of 10 times.”

— Saints left tackle Terron Armstead rattles off travel destinations that — unfortunately for him — have nothing to do with the kind of jet-setting leisure a big NFL contract affords.

Rather, New Orleans’ second-highest-paid offensive player has been on a protracted search for answers about how to stay healthy.

“I’ve done pretty much everything as far as injury prevention. I’ve been a lot of places Derwin James Jersey , you know, out of the country, spent a lot of time with different doctors, just trying to get over that hump,” Armstead said, listing trips to Germany, New York, Minnesota, Texas and Florida, among others. “I’ve been pretty much everywhere.”

During the early days of training camp, Armstead — one of the players most responsible for protecting quarterback Drew Brees from potentially devastating blind-side hits — has sounded confident that his journey back to optimum health is nearly complete.

“I was able to start the offseason getting stronger in areas that were injured before,” Armstead said, explaining that in the past, he wasn’t able to train the way he wanted to because previous injuries were still healing. “So being able to start the offseason getting stronger in areas that I haven’t been able to, that was the difference.”

Armstead has missed 15 regular-season games since the Saints signed him to a five-year extension worth about $65 million in 2016. He sat out six games last season and nine the season before that. And when he has played, he often has fought through pain to do so. Last season, he was bothered by a hip injury after coming back from a shoulder injury.

Earlier in his career Anthony Miller Jersey , he struggled with knee soreness, which led him to seek out the same type of plasma therapy in Germany sought out by high-profile athletes such as former NBA star Kobe Bryant.

During the first days of training camp, coaches and teammates have commented on Armstead’s apparent improvements in strength, form and vigor.

“He’s not rehabbing. He was training,” coach Sean Payton said. “The guys that have been injured have not been really on the ground. You can be on a treadmill or a bike, but it’s different when you’re actually on the ground playing. So it’s good to have him. He’s not only an important player for us, but also an important leader.

“He’s always been a really good athlete and he’s playing well.”

The Saints selected Armstead in the third round of the 2013 draft and elevated him to starter at the end of his rookie season. While Armstead spent his college career largely out of the limelight at Arkansas-Pine Bluff, NFL personnel took notice when he ran 40 yards in 4.71 seconds at the NFL scouting combine. In other words, when healthy, he moves well for someone listed at 6-foot-5, 304 pounds.

Veteran guard Larry Warford, now in his second season in New Orleans, describes Armstead’s recent form as “unbelievable.”

“Even compared to last year, I think he’s vastly improved — and that’s saying a lot because he was damn good last year,” Warford said. “I’m excited to see him this season because I think he’s going to be a dominant player.

“It’s hard to appreciate if you’re not an offensive lineman, but just the intent of everything he does is superior. It’s top-notch,” Warford continued. “There’s a lot of natural ability that goes into that as well Tremaine Edmunds Jersey , but you can see that he’s been working. I know he’s felt bad about missing (games in past seasons) and so he just got his body right and got healthy.”

Armstead’s athleticism doesn’t merely present challenges for defensive ends trying to pressure Brees. His ability to move fast thwarts linebackers chasing running plays across the field.

Saints second-year linebacker Alex Anzalone said he’s seen Armstead do plenty of that in practice.

“For a big guy, he rolls really well,” Anzalone said.

Armstead said that earlier in his career, he “never knew why things kept happening” to take him out of action. And while he knows there’s no guaranteeing one’s health in the NFL, he asserts that his grasp of everything from how muscle groups work together to injury prevention is far superior to what it was a few years ago.

“I mean, it’s football,” Armstead said. “Things happen for sure, but I’m on top of anything I can do to prevent it and be out there for my team.”

Notes: Saints first-round draft choice, defensive end Marcus Davenport, and veteran tight end Ben Watson both missed their fourth straight practices with undisclosed ailments on Saturday. Also not practicing were OL John Fullington, DB JT Gray, TE Micheal Hoomanawanui, DB Kamrin Moore, C Cameron Tom and RB Shane Vereen.
