[English]

O honeybee,
Go and tell Lord Krishna
Till the time I remember & see him
I do not feel good. My body is on fire.
Honeybee,
Request Lord Krishna to keep me with him
Or else his Radha will die.
Honeybee, go & tell Lord Krishna.
O honeybee,
If I would have known that Lord Krishna will leave me
I would have divided my forehead in two parts
Whenever he would have opened it he would have listened to his Radha's voice
O honeybee,
Please go and tell Lord Krishna
That the fire in Radha's heart
Can only be doused if Lord Krishna
Comes and pays a visīt.

Dhamail is a form of folk music and dance originated in Sylhet, Bangladesh and in areas influenced by the Sylheti culture such as Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Shillong, tripura.  It accompanies the use of mirdanga, kartals and others. This dance form mainly relates the love of Radha and Krishna and the inner significance of this dance form is that the newly wedded couple must unite their souls in such fashion. The ladies moves in circle, clapping their hands to the beat of the music. The songs are first sung by the leader and then the others join the chorus. Breaks are then given so that the ladies can have paan and shupari and/or tea. Radha Raman Dutta (1833-1915) is considered as the father of the 'dhamail' dance tradition. He was an influential Sylheti folk music composer and poet from the Sunamganj district in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
