Education in India
India stands proud, among the world for its own,
ancient healthcare system, the ‘Ayurveda’. The word
Ayurveda is a Sanskrit derivation, of two word Ayus
and Vedas, meaning life and Science respectively.
Ayurvedic science has also the traits of Tibetan,
Unani and Chinese treatments. BAMS is the authorized
graduate degree for ayurvedic studies, which stands
for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. This
course is offered by the Central council of the

In addition, there are also many courses in Ayurveda,
starting from seven days to a year or more. The
Ayurvedic Courses in India can be broadly classified
as per the time duration. Diploma in Ayurveda is
also available. Some of the courses that are
available in Ayurveda are Ayurvedic Cosmetology,
Panchakarma therapy, Herbology, and so on. By
pursuing these courses, one can get knowledge about
the history of Ayurveda, fundamental principles,
philosophical theory and the local practical
treatments in the sacred science of Ayurveda.
The
duration for pursuing BAMS is spanned for a period
of five years and six months. If a person wants to
continue his or her studies in Ayurveda then, he or
she should learn sixteen branches in Ayurveda, which
will make them a Doctorate. The branches of the PG
course are Ayurvedic Sidhanta, Ayurvedic Samhita,
Rachna Sharira, Kriya Sharira, Dravya Guna Vigyan,
Ras- ShastraBhaishajya Kalpana, Kumar Bharitya,
Prasuti Tantra, Swasth Vrita, Kayachikitsa, Rog
Nidan, Shalya Tantra, Shalkya Tantra, Mano Roga and
Panchkarma. Many students from abroad come here to
pursue this skill. The Pre-Med entrance exam is a
gateway for joining BAMS. An internship period of
one year is practiced by all the students who have
completed BAMS.
