EDUCATION SYSTEM IN INDONESIA:
The education system in Indonesia can be broken
down in the following stages:
1.
Primary schooling starts at the age of 3 with kindergarten which
is further classified as Class A and Class B each of one year.
Kindergarten is not compulsory for the native children because
even today, a large part of Indonesia cannot access private
kindergarten schools.
2.
Next, elementary education begins at the age of 6
and is compulsory for all students. Elementary Schooling ends
after six years of initial education while fast learners in the
country also have an option of completing the course within five
years which can be an advantage to students.
3.
Secondary education comes next which comprises of
the Middle school and the High school. Middle school begins at
the age of 12 and carries on for the coming three years. It is
however not compulsory for students to attend high school unless
they want to enter a University.
4.
Tertiary education includes education in
University and one must graduate from high school or its
equivalent to be eligible to seek admission in a University.
ACCOMMODATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
Many hostels and student dormitories are
available at the Indonesian universities. It is very obvious
that it is more advantageous to stay in an on-campus
dormitory/room. Apart from these, students can search for
apartments or rooms on rent. Facilities vary from University to
University and from apartment to apartment. It is essential that
one finds a safe and secure apartment in Indonesia which is
preferably close to the campus.
FINANCING EDUCATION/COST CONSTRAINTS:
Education in Indonesia is not as expensive as
education in most of the western countries. However, the
University and government offer scholarships and other forms of
financial aids to help the needy and capable students. Cost of
living reduces drastically if one stays in an on-campus
accommodation.
BEST UNIVERSITIES IN INDONESIA:
University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University,
Bundung Institute of Technology, Pelita Harapan University and
Bogor Agriculture University are amongst the top 10 university
in Indonesia.
