Study in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers vast areas of study to its students. It is known for some of the best universities in the world and the first-class, modern and advanced facilities the universities provide. The qualifications and degrees one gets from a Hong Kong university are recognized worldwide. Research work in Hong Kong is highly encouraged by the government as well as the educational institutes.

EDUCATION SYSTEM IN HONG KONG:

Education for a student starts at the age of 3 with kindergarten and advances to primary and senior secondary school. These three stages of education are made compulsory for all and are followed by two years of secondary education if one intends to enroll in a university. Therefore, one requires a certificate of matriculation or its equivalent (for international students) as a minimum requirement to enter a university. At the University level, one has to first go for Graduation (three years bachelor’s programme) and then Post-graduation.

ACCOMODATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

University accommodation, hostels, halls of residences, shared and rented apartments are the obvious and safest options for international students. One must look for accommodation close to the campus if not on-campus since it reduces one’s traveling expenses considerably. One can contact his/her respective university to know more about one’s options. The rent depends on an individual’s personal demands and requirements as well as the location of the apartment.

FINANCING EDUCATION/COST CONSTRAINTS:

Education fees in Hong Kong usually range from HKD 70,000 to HKD 80,000 per annum varying from university to university. Housing can cost one anywhere from HKD 5,000 to HKD 60,000 a month. The upper limit owes to off-campus accommodation and can vary greatly depending on a student’s requirements and demands as well as the location of the apartment. It is thus advisable for students to go in for shared accommodation. Apart from the above, there are other living expenditures such as food, stationary, clothing, etc. One can be smart in availing student discounts at various places like a few restaurants, public transport, etc.

Scholarships are awarded to talented and hardworking students by several institutions and universities so as to remove any sort of financial hindrance they might face to study further.

UNIVERSITIES IN HONG KONG:

The University of Hong Kong, The City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Institute of Education, etc. are just some of the renowned universities of Hong Kong.
