Utkal University was recognized in 1943 and it is seventh oldest University of India. Its current campus is in Vani Vihar, Bhubaneshwar is positioned on the extensive 399.9-Acre area. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, foremost President of India on 1 January 1958, placed foundation stone of the Campus. Campus was launche by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan on January 2, 1963 by the second President of India. It is teaching-cum-affiliating University. Presently, there are 27 Post-Graduate Departments situated in University Campus for the Post-Graduate studies as well as research in different disciplines like Humanities, Science, Business Administration, Law, Social Science, and Commerce. It is the biggest affiliating University in India with around 267 associated Colleges in its jurisdiction.
University has now jurisdiction above nine districts including Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Puri, and Khurda. Presently, University has 27 Post-Graduate research and teaching departments positioned within campus as well as three component Institutions like University Law College in Vani Vihar, Directorate of Distance & Continuing Education, and the M.S. Law College in Cuttack. In addition to regular courses, 26 supported courses are provided under direct academic control for P.G. Council of University. The whole strength of the students enrolled under the PG courses are almost 3000.
