The Jamia Hamdard University located in New Delhi has got a
great historical background. It began as a small clinic in the
year 1906 started by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed. He was a
renowned practitioner of Unani System of Medicine. Hakeem Hafiz
Abdul Majeed was a visionary in the sense that he had a
foresight about turning the study of Unani Medicine into a
scientific approach so that a large number of masses could
benefit from it. It was the great Hakim who coined the term
“Hamdard” meaning ‘sympathy for all and sharing of pain’. Hakeem
Abdul Hameed, his illustrious son, carried on his father’s
legacy and established the university in 1954 as we see it
today, and in 1989 it was given the deemed university status.
His services in empowering the underprivileged and the less
exposed Muslim students are recognized the world over. This
university encourages the Muslim minority committee to gain
education and help their fellow brethren advance in life. The
university enjoys an autonomous status and offers Under Graduate
and Post Graduate course in engineering and management streams.

Eligibility criteria:
Candidates who have passed the 10+2 with any combination of
subjects with at least 55%of a recognized education board from
India are eligible to apply for this course. Also candidates
with a Bachelor’s degree under the 10+2+3 system of education
affiliated to a recognized or a deemed university can apply for
admission.
Admission procedure:
Candidates are required to apply for an Entrance Examination and
the application form can be downloaded from the website:
www.jamiahamdard.edu or it can be ordered by post after paying a
fee of 600 INR.
