FACULTY OF LAW, UNIVERSITY OF KOLKATA
Faculty of law is located in Hazra campus of the university. In
the year 1909, faculty of law was established. It is one of the
top 25 law schools in India. It has five other law colleges
affiliated to department of law, university of Kolkata. They are
Surendranath Law College
South Calcutta Law College
Jogesh Chandra Choudhury Law College
Kingston George Law College
Bikash Bharati Law College
Annual exams occur in the month of June or July. The courses
offered by this university are :
L.L.B
L.L.B. (H)
LL.M.
Ph.D.
L.L.D.
The university provides many facilities to its students. It has
hostel to provide accommodation for students of the university
and to men research scholars. The library houses more than 10
lakh books along with volumes of bound Journals, M.Phil
dissertations, PhD dissertations, proceedings of conferences,
reports, maps, standards, patents, newspapers, manuscripts,
microfilms, CD-ROMs. The Library was expanded due to increase in
student population and to satisfy the students needs. The
library organises various exhibitions so as to promote
awareness. In order to provide facilities to S.C. /S.T. /O.B.C.
candidates, it has established a BCW Cell. The university has 17
halls used for many functions and has a capacity to accommodate
around 2000 students.
Admission to the university is based purely on marks scored by
the student in previous exams. The number of seats allotted are
150, 50, 35 for L.L.B, L.L.B(H) and LL.M respectively. The
pattern of the University of London was adopted by the
university which was modified at later stages. In order to
provide students the best learning the university organises
Orientation Programs, Refresher Courses, Seminars and Workshops.
The department of law puts in all efforts to help the students
graduate successfully.
