National law School of India University is an institution for
law studies. It is located in Nagarbhavi. It was started in
1987. Strengthened research system and good teaching at law
school is the result of many research projects undertaken by the
school.
National law school has a good rapport with the National
University of Singapore, Osgoode Hall Law School, York
University, Canada and Buceuius Law School, Germany with the
help of exchange programmes organised within these institutions.
Students from these institutions have experienced studying here
and vice versa which in turn helped understanding the culture
and ideas of different countries. 80 students get admitted for
5-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) program every year. Selection is
based on Common Law Admission Test.
National law school has experienced foreign professors from the
U.S.A., Canada, U.K., Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China,
South Africa, Malaysia and New Zealand. It also offers a
Master’s Degree programme in Business Laws, and Post-Graduate
Diploma programmes in Human Rights Law, Environmental Law,
Medical Law and Ethics, Intellectual Property Law and Child
Rights Law through distant education.
The law school is putting in lot of effort to stay ahead in
globalisation. The graduates turn into legal practitioners, law
teachers or engage in legal research or enter the judiciary.
Classrooms and conference halls of law school are well
facilitated in terms of technology. It has the biggest law
library in India. The ideas on setting up a digital library are
being worked on apart from the initiative to allow world wide
access to source documents.
Among the universities of south Asia, national law school won
the Jessup cup. It defeated Georgetown University (United
States) in the Final at Manfred Lachs Moot 2009. Retired Judges
of the Supreme Court and High Court help in assisting the
school.
