2017 Durga Puja in New Zealand

In New Zealand, Durga Puja is celebrated with the same passion like it’s celebrated in different other countries. Bengali Hindu community in New Zealand has great admiration for this festival, even if they are living outside India. All Indian communities in New Zealand get together with Bengali sisters and brothers to rejoice Durga Puja and to demonstrate how beautiful and colorful the Indian culture is.

For past several years, Bengali people in New Zealand are celebrating Durga Puja and also have created some organizations which perform Durga Puja and make all the preparations right from making pandals to arranging Bengali sweets which are provided to the worshippers.

Wellington Durgoutsav Committee is amongst the most prominent organizations which arrange Durga Puja every year in New Zealand. A group of some friends, who are living in North Palmerstone, initiated the “Sharbojonin” Durga Puja through the help of the Wellington Bengali Community which is also known as Prantik Durgoutsav Communities.

Though, there are only some families who play a part in in the Durga Puja, still it’s totally fun filled because there are a number of cultural programs which are organized to amuse people and also organize stage shows on Durga Puja. Also there are various sweets serving and public from New Zealand also participate during this occasion, because they also like to take pleasure of the Indian culture and festivals.

The Wellington Bengali community is rising ever more, so total events for Durga Puja have also been increased. The requirement for Durga Puja is rising because of the increasing population of Bengali Indians in New Zealand. It has helped a lot in increasing the fame of Durga Puja in different countries and in New Zealand also.

The main objective of this population is to continue Durga Puja for longer period of time so that the Indian festivals and culture keep spreading forever.
