Mahatma Gandhi University is located on a huge campus
encompassing an area of over 110 acres at Athirampuzha, about 13
kilometers from the Kottayam district in Central Kerala. The
University is ideally located in Central Kerala and hence has
its jurisdiction in the revenue districts of Alleppey, Ernakulam,
Idukki, parts of Pathanamthitta and of course Kottayam. The
University has been in operation for the past 28 years and has
been providing disciplinary teaching and research oriented
programs for the student community in areas like social
sciences, applied sciences and humanities. The School of
Distance Education started its operations in the University in
the year 1990 and since then has been imparting cost effective
quality education to various sections of people including those
students living in the remote areas of the State.
Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate is considered to eligible for the distance education
B Ed program of the University if he or she holds a Bachelor’s
or Master’s degree in the specified subjects prescribed by the
Mahatma Gandhi University and the degree has to be obtained from
a recognized or reputed University within the State or as
recommended by the Kerala state government. Also, the candidate
needs to have a minimum of two years teaching experience in
either primary or secondary or higher secondary levels in any
recognized private or government schools located in Kerala.
Admission Procedure:
Only candidates who are eligible to take up the course will be
given a chance to prove their mettle in the common entrance test
conducted by the Mahatma Gandhi University. All the candidates
who have secured merit pass in the entrance exam will be given
an opportunity to pursue the Bachelor of Education course
through distance learning mode from the University. For further
