University of Madras Distance Learning BEd Admission
The University of Madras is one of the oldest Universities in
South India and is often considered to be the mother of all
institutions in the Southern part of India. The Madras
University came into existence in 1857 virtue of a public
petition dated 11-11-1839 that initiated the process of setting
up this University. The Governor of Tamil Nadu is the Chancellor
of the University. The Madras University has been accredited
with ‘A’ grade level by NAAC. The University of Madras has also
been conferred with the “University with Potential for
Excellence” notification by the University Grants Commission.
The Department of Education was started in the year 1976 and it
specializes in various fields like Economics of education, Work
education, Curriculum Development, Special Education etc. One of
the largest distance education University in Tamil Nadu, the
Institute of Distance Education of Madras University has been
offering various courses to candidates through Distance
education as well as Open University modes.
Eligibility Criteria:
A candidate seeking admission to the Bachelor of Education
course through the University of Madras distance education
program will have to have secured an aggregate of 50% marks in
any Bachelor’s degree program in any discipline from any
recognized University across India or from the University of
Madras. The candidate also must have a minimum of two years
experience in teaching in any Government or Government aided or
private schools that are recognized by the Tamil Nadu Government
in order to be eligible for admission to the B Ed course.
Admission Procedure:
The candidate who is eligible for the B Ed program will have to
take an entrance test conducted by the University. The selection
of the candidates will be based on the marks scored by the
candidate in this entrance test. On selection, the candidate
will be asked to attend counseling at the University campus as
per the date specified in the call letter sent by the
