The Andhra University (AU) established in 1926 is acknowledged by the educationists all over as a university par excellence in the fields of teaching and research. It is a world renowned institution with an ‘A’ grade accreditation by NAAC. In 2006 it became the first among all the universities to get an ISO 9001:200 certification. It is second only to Mysore University in southern India to have started the distance education scheme that is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), New Delhi Under this system over a lakh of students are currently pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The School of Distance Education (SDE) was thus started in 1972 and it today offers a range of courses that include 4 UG programs, 18 PG programs, 5 Certification Courses, 9 PG Diploma Courses, 15 Professional Courses and 7 Collaborative Courses all through its 35 study centers across the state.

The School harbors a total of 23 permanent faculty members and boasts of a dependable library. The syllabi, regulations and the degree awarded are the same to both the regular and distance learners of AU. Students enrolled in the distance education programs can avail of excellent self-study material, audio-visual aids and face-to-face interaction facilities. An impressive initiative of broadcasting lessons and answering queries related to the course is carried out through the community radio service of Gyan Vani. Eligibility Criteria
Applicants to the course should have passed graduation under the 10+2+3 pattern of any recognized Indian university. However, the course admits only regular in-service secondary teacher candidates working in the state of Andhra Pradesh and having at least 2 years of bona-fide teaching experience.
Admission Procedure
Applicants who fulfill the eligibility criteria listed above are subjected to a common entrance test and subject to their clearing the exam they are invited for the next round of counseling. The relevant application form can be purchased from the AU campus.
