Admission 2017-2018 Courses
With over 150 years of service in higher education, the Madras
University is known for its superior quality education and
training across all faculties of knowledge. It is a public
research university in the southern city of Chennai. As far as
its seniority goes, it belongs to the elite group of one of the
oldest universities in India. The university takes pride in
being accredited with ‘A’ grade by NAAC-the apex rating body for
higher educational institutions. What’s more, it is also
recognized by UGC as a university with potential for excellence.
A collegiate university by nature, the Madras University
operates with six campuses across the city. The university
boasts of over 50 different departments offering a range of
subjects.
The Madras University also offers the B.Sc (Bachelor of Science)
and M.Sc (Master of Science) programmes. The B.Sc is an
under-graduate programme while the M.Sc is a post-graduate
program. The duration of B.Sc course is three years and M.Sc
course takes two years to complete. The detail information about
the two courses is as follows.
Eligibility Criteria:
For both the courses the candidate should be bonafide Indian
citizen. To be eligible for admission to B.Sc programme the
candidate should have secured not less than 50% aggregate marks
at the 10+2 level in the science stream. Reserved category
students need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks at the 10+2
level. For admission to an M.Sc course the candidate should have
passed the Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with a
minimum of 50% marks.
Admission Procedure:
An entrance test is conducted the University for admission to
the M.Sc programme for different subjects. A candidate should
pass this entrance test and the final admission list is drawn
based upon the average of marks obtained in the entrance test
and the final B.Sc exam. Till the time the final year results
are declared, the candidate can take provisional admission
provided all the subjects get cleared in the final results.
