Admission 2017-2018 Courses
The University of Madras is located in Chennai in the State of
Tamil Nadu. It is one of the three oldest universities in India,
the other two being University of Kolkata and Mumbai University.
The Madras University was started in the year 1857 and was
modeled after the University of London. The Madras University is
regulated by the University Grants Commission of the Indian
Government. It is a public research collegiate University and
has six campuses that offers a total of 50 courses in various
fields of arts, science, and commerce and management studies.
The accolades that have been bestowed upon the Madras University
include an “A” star rating from NAAC and a “University with
Potential for excellence” by the University Grants Commission.
Eligibility Criteria:
The Madras University offers a wide range of courses conducted
by the Department of Arts through distant learning with
specialized subjects in B.A courses comprising of Public
Administration, Economics, Historical Studies, and Christian
Studies etc. The eligibility criteria for the above courses are
a pass in the H.S.C or 10+2 or a 3 year Diploma course. For a
candidate seeking admission to the various M .A programs should
possess a Bachelor’s degree in the corresponding subject either
from the University of Madras or from any other recognized
University.
Admission Procedure:
The application forms for the admission to the various B.A and
M.A courses can be downloaded from the University’s website. The
completely filled application form along with copies of all the
testimonials and the qualification certificates should be sent
to the administrative office before the last submission date,
failing which the application will be rejected. Eligible
candidates for the various courses will be called for an
interview by the concerned department.
