The Annamalai University originally come into existence as Sri Minakshi College, Chidambaram in the year 1920. In the year 1928, Annamalai University Act existed and Sri Minakshi College converted into the Annamalai University. The Directorate of Distance Education was grouped in the year 1979, and is rendering the service in continuation with the education to all the age groups in the country. The Faculty of the Medicine with Nursing and Pharmacy, Dental College Departments were started in the year 1980.
